Building a Future

Fili chuckled softly, settling just that much closer as Kili shifted against him. Kili was the only treasure he’d ever wanted. “I do. Makes you look more scruffy.” He tugged a few hairs lightly and kissed his lips gently once more. His beard hadn’t grown much of course, but over the months of the quest and those after the battle, Fili hadn’t had much chance to watch it grow, and seeing him now compared to then, he could indeed tell a difference. His nails scraped at it lightly, letting out a soft hum as Kili’s leg hooked over him.

His eyes shifted upward to squint at Kili’s mass of dark hair in a show of scrutinizing the wild mane. “Worse, but I like that too.” He slid halfway to one side when Kili’s knee pressed into his ribs, laughing softly again at his brother’s adorable puppy face. Fili hadn’t seen that expression for quite some time, and it brought with it a flood of familiar peace. “You have my sincerest apologies and permission,” he answered, smiling as he settled back down.

Kili grinned, shifting a bit more to wrap every possible limb around his brother as he smoothed himself against him, shivering only lightly as he felt the brief soreness in his body. “I love you, Fee” he hummed, “An’ I still want you. Well, I always do, but y’know what I mean.”

Grinning like a rather satisfied cat and making a soft, purring sound matching the expression, he pressed a slightly clumsy kiss to his brother’s lips. “Will y’braid my hair, then? We’re actual princes now and all that. Well, it’s no’ as if we hadn’t been princes b’fore, but like with a kingdom an’ everything now.” Shooting a curious glance up at his brother, he nestled his head into the crook of Fili’s neck. “I’ll wear braids, but only if y’make them, aye?” Husband and all that, after all, Fili was supposed to be the only one braiding his hair anyway.

Kili sprawled out on the bed, head hanging a bit over the side, the expression on his face being a dramatic showing of an upcoming death of boredom. „Feewee. Pay attention to me.“ (durinsxsons)

“I am,” he mumbled automatically, though he didn’t even glance up from where he was carefully wrapping thin leather strips around the hafts of the throwing axes he’d just finished sharpening to form the grip. Creating a smooth grip while maintaining the axe’s balance required careful precision.

There were two done, neatly laid out on the floor on a blanket, the last in line still waiting.

He rolled his eyes slightly, mouth still stretched into a smile. His little brother always did have a flare for the dramatic, though surprises (considering his nature) had never been one of his strong suits, though he did try. Fili let his head fall back against the pillows, exposing the whole line of his throat to Kili’s teeth, shivering at the hot tongue that traced its way back up.

His hips pressed up into the teasing touch at his entrance, so close to where he wanted but not pressing in despite his urging. Fili let out a small breath, thighs twitching as the hand stole away and instead traced tickling circles into his skin. His muscles continued to twitch as Kili’s hands wandered up his sides, brushing over sensitive patches as they moved up. Fili realized belatedly how vulnerable he really was, should Kili decide to be really mean – but then, Kili was smart enough to know that Fili would never allow this again if he took advantage. He relaxed only when Kili’s hands lifted all the way up to his hair, the danger passed, and he smiled softly at him, watching his face as he unwound braid after braid. “You have me at your mercy and you choose to unbraid my hair? One would think I haven’t taught you how to make the most of the opportunities good fortune bestows upon you, little brother.”

“I’ll have you beg for mercy soon enough” he replied cheerfully, undoing the last braid and pecking a gentle kiss to his brother’s lips, “But I wouldn’t want that to happen because I pull your braids or stuff.”

With a smile, he briefly sat back on his heels, eyes wandering over his brother’s form. “Though I must say I’m beginning to grow rather fond of this” he noted, kissing him again before his lips brushed down his neck once more, focusing on his chest and pressing another kiss to a nipple before grazing over it with his tongue. After all, he’d stated more than once that he enjoyed his brother with his hair unbraided as much as he did to braid his hair lateron, hadn’t he? Besides, hadn’t they both learned early on that preparation was everything?

His fingers resting on the v of his brother’s hips, gently tracing down to brush through coarse hair, he bit down lightly onto the nub between his lips.

Fili nuzzled into him with a small noise of agreement. If he hadn’t proven already that he would always be Kili’s sword and shield, then nothing would. But he wasn’t worried. Kili knew. His mouth curved into a smile that mirrored Kili’s own, a combination of pleasure and relief, as he began to relax once again under his brother’s careful attention. “You’re perfect because you’re my husband,” he answered teasingly, leaning into the kisses with soft sounds of approval. “Perfect because you’re mine.” Only perfect because they were together.

He also leaned a bit into the brush of Kili’s hands on his skin, realizing belatedly as he became more aware of his own body that he’d pulled out of Kili at some point and he had specifically asked him not to. Fili flushed a little, but he didn’t mention it, instead returning Kili’s soft smile and bumping his forehead against Kili’s lightly as he settled close. “We have,” he agreed softly, more sober now but still feeling much better than he had only minutes before, “And even though we have the time, I’ve wasted enough of it that I want to treasure every moment I have with you now.” His fingertips traced Kili’s jaw lightly, as if memorizing the angle and the feel of longer stubble scraping his nails. Then he tipped his chin and kissed him again, soft and sweet. At least the desire to shower him with affection was returning, if not the desire for other less innocent things.

Well, his dear brother was, of course, welcome to return between his legs at any time. Briefly smoothing his hips against his brother’s, he let his head fall back a bit at Fili’s touch, smiling a little drowsily at his brother’s kiss.

“Y’re welcome to treasure” he hummed softly, “and everythin’ that comes with it.” Fili’s fingers following his jaw had his smile deepen a little, too. “D’ye like it?” he asked, grinning almost sheepishly, “I mean – is it even visible? I dunno, I didn’t pay attention…” Well, to be honest, it had likely been weeks he’d even so much as seen a mirror at all. His hair had never been braided overly much in the first place, so it wasn’t that hard to keep in shape, so…

Shifting a bit, he wrapped one of his legs over his brother’s to pull him even closer as he snuggled against him. “I guess I didna pay much attention to anything” he muttered, grimacing a bit (at himself), “What’s my hair lookin’ like, Fee? Worse than ‘fore?” Glancing up at his brother, and then his eyes flickering downwards for a brief moment, he squinted up at him with his best expression of (fake) pouting and puppy eyes. “Y’left” he noticed, “Meh.” Gently, he nudged his brother’s side with his knee as best as he could. “Mind if I make up for that?”

Fili blinked a bit, lifting his head just enough so that he could peer up and see Kili’s face, his smile and his watery eyes. This was the sort of thing that Thorin might have said to him, had he ever been open to listening, but it was coming from Kili, and Fili found himself wondering if his little brother had always understood things so well, or if this was part of what had grown out of him during his months of absence. But he also found himself smiling, a tiny little hiccup of a laugh sounding as he lifted a hand to rub the water from his own eyes.

“When did you become so perfect, Kee?” he asked quietly, shifting to burrow even closer to him, nuzzling into his cheek and pushing his hair back with his free hand, pressing kisses to his skin and then to his lips. For the longest time he had only been able to see the ways in which he’d failed, and now here was Kili telling him that he had succeeded in the way that mattered most. Until the last moment he had done his best to be everything Thorin had taught him. He had stayed true to himself, to Kili, and to the line of Durin. His nightmares had eclipsed everything good he had accomplished, every noble intent, with weakness and fear. But Kili… Kili had seen what he could barely remember.

“I love you, nadadith. You’ve always given me strength, y’know that?” Fili kissed him hard, hugging him fiercely. “I couldn’t be me without you.”

“I’m your sword and your shield” he replied simply, wrapping his arms tightly around his brother, fingertips briefly following the line of his spine, “And you’re mine, aye?” With a soft smile, he pressed a kiss to his brother’s forehead.

The corners of his mouth curled into a grin, though, at his brothers – rhethorical, but still – question. “I’ve always been perfect, didn’t ye notice? Isn’t that why I’m your husband?” Still grinning, he pressed another kiss to his brother’s lips, soft and open mouthed as his tongue flickered out to brush over his brother’s lower lip.

“You’ve always been perfect yourself, m’dear brother” he hummed softly, “I love you, hmm? My brave warrior brother.”

His fingertips wandered back down, briefly brushing over the curve of his rear before his arms wrapped close around his brother’s waist again. “We’ve both been through a lot, y’know” he said softly, with a light, tired smile, “But we’ve got time to make everything better now, aye? Whatever happens, we’ll face it together. That’s the most important thing, aye? We’ve got all the time in the world to make new, happy memories here.”
